The Pitminster Church

The Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew (The Pitminster Church) is located in Pitminster, four miles from Taunton.  The village parish has been the site of worship for church members since early Norman times.  The church building has gone through many renovations in the past several centuries.  In recent years it has installed a new East Window and refurbished both the interior and exterior walls.  Both of these were accomplished with the assistance of the Gaylord, Boody, and Treat Families and other decedents of Richard Treat.  To assist with the on-going support of the parish church, the Friends of Pitminster Church was established in order that Treat descendants in the United States may be able to provide annual financial contributions.

The Reverend Sue Green, vicar of the Church, and her congregation warmly receive members of the Treat Family many of whom visit the Church each year.  The Church has presented pageants enacting the controversy over recasting of the Church bells in 1630 which was vigorously opposed by Richard Treat.  It was in 1637 that Richard Treat (formerly Trott), his wife Alice and their nine children departed for America on the ship Mary and John.

Contributions from members of the Treat Family in America are encouraged to support the continuing needs of the Church.
